What Jesus taught and what Christianity are two different things. Too much manipulation and distortion have impacted the theology to the point where it no longer resembles what the teacher taught. Then you get to the point where mainstream Christians advocate murder, warfare, systemic racism, capitalism and more. I cannot label myself a Christian. Even members of the /r/TrueChristian community outright rejected his teachings and banned me for simply being the wrong denomination (I have no denomination).
That being said, for those wondering what they are going to call themselves if they’re going to follow suit, there is no reason to put a label on yourself. Labels are purely intended to distinguish yourself from others instead of reminding us that we are all one. Just say you are a follower of Jesus teachings, but you are not part of any religious group.
Unfortunately, what Christianity became and what Jesus taught are in numerous cases, polar opposites.
