So I’ve Forgiven Everyone. That Means I Followed Jesus, Right?

“Forgive all others? But I’ve done that already!”

Have you, though? Be honest with yourself.

Making a mental note that you’ve forgiven someone is a good start. But forgiveness that never leaves your head hasn’t finished its work. Forgiveness becomes real the moment it becomes visible: when you make an actual attempt at reconciliation. Peace is the goal, and peace has to be made.

That attempt doesn’t need to be dramatic. A simple text or message is enough:

“Hey, I know we’ve had our problems, but I hope you’re doing well. I’d love to put the past behind us. I miss the way we used to laugh together. If you feel the same, reach out anytime.”

That message does something a private thought never can. It turns forgiveness into a conscious, visible commitment to healing. It takes real effort, and it takes the humility to set your pride aside. That’s exactly why it matters.

Understand what this does not mean. Reconciliation is not restoration. Reaching out doesn’t obligate you to invite that person back into your daily life, start having dinners together, or pretend nothing happened. You can make peace with someone and still keep your distance, and where someone has truly harmed you, distance may be the wise choice. What matters is that the door you slammed shut is no longer locked. A reopened line of communication is a symbol of a relationship that was broken and has now been repaired at its root.

The ego thrives on separation. It keeps score, nurses old wounds, and tells you that holding a grudge quietly is the same as letting it go. But the deeper truth Jesus pointed to is that we are not separate. We are interconnected, and every act of division is a wound we carry ourselves. Choosing unity over division pays off in ways you won’t be able to measure.

So if you’ve truly forgiven someone, show it. Reach out when you can. Tell them you hope they’re well. That is enough. Separation evaporates.

Be the person that extends the olive branch. Be the person that accepts it with a smile.

On the plus side of this, you are making huge strides towards accessing your unity and oneness with the universe that lies within you, just waiting to be accessed whenever you’re ready. A nice incentive to restore peace and repair relationships with the people in your life.
