Fidelity and loyalty to old texts keep people anchored in the past despite breakthroughs and milestones in spiritual thought or despite other faiths making breakthroughs in understanding of spirituality, quantum mechanics, metaphysics and achieving unity with the universe.

Christians reject true ideas because it doesn’t align with historically Christian views, because even though it was realized by other faiths many years before Jesus or after Jesus when we had a better understanding of the nature of reality. If it doesn’t resemble Christianity it’s seen as wrong even if it’s right. We are unfortunately anchored in a place of time even though we’ve advanced significantly since the days of Jesus

That being said Christians have to dive into the old testament with a fine tooth comb and use Jesus’ message as a guide as to what to accept and what to throw away.

Think of Jesus teachings as a compass and use it to navigate it and your life and don’t be afraid to discard large blocks of text of the old testament that don’t jive with Jesus teachings. God is not going to condemn you for expressing love to members of the gay community, and God is not going to cheer you for hurting, ostracizing and marginalizing gay people. Jesus’ teachings of love and compassion supersede Old Testament teachings of violence and antagonism.
