Evil has always been a loaded word with several implications, on a broader level, it’s been used as a blanket term to describe any bad or nefarious act or person. However, “evil” can be more accurately as someone acting out of egoistical selfishness, hatred, anger, disdain, lack of consideration towards others as well as an insistence on preserving living life lived in a the lower levels of ego consciousness as opposed to a higher spiritual consciousness in which you are instead acting out of total unity and oneness with all. Your goal is to trade selfishness for selflessness. Invoke and call on the holy spirit for help on this. Jesus put this at the tail end of his lord’s prayer where, he says “deliver us from evil”. However, when reciting this prayer, it’s important to understand and know what you’re calling for and asking for help for when reciting this line. You’re not asking to be saved from some boogeyman in the lower depths of earth’s surface in a cave. You’re asking for help being shifted from egotistical lower levels of consciousness to higher levels of enlightened spiritual consciousness. That’s a pretty large request that fits at the tail end of his prayer, so it’s important to know what you’re asking for when you cite this line.
In modern society, evil acts and persons are typically used to describe acts and person who perform objectively unethical acts like murder and theft. And therefore it also gets lumped in with other “evil” acts that at best are small infractions that should be corrected but are not comparable to theft, murder, etc. In the broader context of social/religious discussions everyone is considered evil and all get judged as a result no matter how small their infraction was.
So in many ways it can be argued that evil is word that should be discarded in favor of a word that is more accurate towards what it is describing. The word also has the loaded imagery of demons and devils that is not necessary or relevant. Again, it is simply describing our own egotistical and unethical/selfish acts. There is no need for supernatural imagery or beliefs when discussing this.
