All thoughts can be considered prayers, as they emit vibrations into the universe, constantly attracting what you are thinking or praying for as all thoughts have a reaction and consequence. Understanding that all thoughts are prayers, Jesus acknowledges that you receive what you are praying for, whether consciously or unconsciously. When he speaks of prayer, he is also referring to normal day to day thinking. You are constantly thinking or praying, not just during the designated prayer hour when your hands are clasped together.
Just as someone seeking trouble will find it, and someone striving for success will achieve it, maintaining a positive and optimistic mindset attracts positive circumstances and situations in life. It is essential to eliminate self wallowing and self-victimization thinking, as it perpetuates and attracts negative hardships. This is a natural law of the universe, and Jesus makes reference to this in multiple verses but he doesn’t quite explain the implications of even casual day to day thinking.
Jesus discusses the power and efficacy of prayer (thoughts) in several passages in the New Testament, emphasizing that God hears and responds to sincere prayers/thoughts.
Consider how certain mindsets lead to predictable outcomes. For example, if one constantly dwells on negative experiences, such as those who lament about police encounters, it is unsurprising they end up attracting such negative encounters. This is simply an ineffable law of the universe in effect and these unfortunate clashes can always be circumvented by simply shifting our minds and consciousness to a more positive state.
Using pop culture as an example. “Ready to Die” by Notorious BIG. Why are we not surprised he got shot? I assure you anyone who records a song called Mo Money Mo Problems will have problems in life. It’s almost comical how people who wallow and focus on negativity do not understand how they are creating their own reality with that sort of thinking. I say this as a fan of hip hop music in general, it’s not healthy to dwell on negative thoughts. I’m not just focusing on Hip Hop culture either. The goth/emo/metal subcultures, which emphasizes and often romanticizes emotions such as sadness and anger, unsurprisingly tends to attract individuals who may become excessively melancholic or angry. These emotions are constantly reinforced by these musical subcultures. This can lead fans to an overdiagnosis of depression and a persistent entanglement in life situations that perpetuate a continuous cycle of sadness and anger. The contrast between music genres like these and more positive genres, such as gospel music—which celebrates and attracts positivity by design—is so stark that you can’t help but laugh. I have definitely have had moments where I’ve had to pause and reflect as to whether the music I’m listening to at the moment is healthy or positive.
Outside of music consumption itself, and in day to day socializing, we also all know that one person who only ever complains about things in life. We always find that they keep attracting similar frustrating scenarios in their daily lives by never giving complaining a break. Their thoughts and focus never deviate from negative thinking.
Therefore, it is crucial to identify and halt negative thoughts as they happen, shifting to aspirational and positive thinking. Even during particularly difficult hardships, focus on the goal of successfully overcoming your current struggles. By doing so, you align yourself with positive outcomes and personal growth. You attract where your mind is currently situated and focusing on.
Again, Jesus speaks about the power and effectiveness of prayer (thoughts), emphasizing that God hears and responds to thoughts aka Prayers. These prayers are realized whether they’re consciously being prayed for or during casual thinking throughout the day. Some relevant passages include:
- Matthew 7:7-8: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”
- Mark 11:24: “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
- John 14:13-14: “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
- John 15:7: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
