Jesus Taught a Path, Not a Personality Cult. No Idols Before Me, Not Even Jesus

Jesus would be deeply disappointed to find that many of his modern followers have chosen to worship him rather than follow his actual instructions. Teachings that clearly instructed us to live a virtuous selfless life, to invoke the Holy Spirit frequently for guidance and to direct our worship and reverence toward our true source: What he called ‘our Father’ which simply refers to God, our source, the greater father and source from which we are all products of.

It’s important to note that Jesus was absolutely acting as a conduit and proxy for the greater universe via the Holy Spirit but he was also given the divine purpose of teaching others how to also achieve that same unity with the universe, how to have the Holy Spirit guiding your life in the same way that it was guiding his every word and action. He was sharing how we could also achieve oneness with God, the universe, all things. Total unity.

It’s important to remember that “Our Father” is not some vague, abstract concept. It is something tangible, something we can witness with our own eyes simply by looking up. The universe itself is our origin, our source, and what humanity has referred to as “God” for millennia. There is no need to speculate about the existence of something that is both visible and tangible.

Other potential points of confusion include:

  • One of the things that would surely confuse Jesus today is seeing people pray to him instead of embracing the Holy Spirit—the very force he urged us to seek. The Holy Spirit is not merely symbolic; it is a real, cosmic presence that exists on a universal scale, permeating all things and binding all of creation together. It is the living cosmic current of divine intelligence, what mystics have long sensed and what quantum physics is only beginning to approach in its exploration of the omnipresent quantum field. This field, this sacred force, is something we all have access to. We’ve felt it in moments of profound clarity, intuition, or insight—those uncanny nudges that seem to come from beyond linear logic. That’s because this force is not bound by time. It knows the past, present, and future as one seamless, infinite moment. When you surrender your will to it—rather than to your limited ego—you align with something vastly wiser, something that can guide your life toward the most fulfilling path. Unlike the ego, which can only guess and often sabotages us with misguided desires or fears, the Holy Spirit of the universe sees the full picture. It knows what serves your highest good. Think of it this way: if you’re holding a broken compass that only occasionally points north and someone offers you a GPS that always leads you along the best possible route, why would you keep relying on the faulty compass? That’s the invitation Jesus extended—not to worship him, but to trust and fully rely on the divine force he called the Holy Spirit. To walk in alignment with it is to walk in truth, clarity, and peace.
  • Very few churches today place enough emphasis on the radical, transformative power of forgiveness. Yet this was central to Jesus’ teachings. We are called to forgive every offense—both minor and major—as soon as it arises. Any bruising of the ego, no matter how small, should be met with immediate release. This practice, when repeated consistently, builds a kind of spiritual resilience, until nothing can disturb your inner peace. A true follower of Jesus develops an impenetrable spiritual armor—one through which insults, slights, and even betrayals simply pass without wounding the soul. This means not only forgiving small everyday offenses, like someone ignoring you or failing to say thank you, but also extending grace in the face of profound hurts—such as infidelity or deep betrayal. In those heavier moments, consider reaching out—not to rekindle relationships necessarily, but to offer forgiveness in the interest of restoring peace, both within yourself and in the world around you. If you have lingering conflicts or bad blood with someone, take the courageous step to resolve them. Even if reconciliation isn’t possible, send them your love and blessings in spirit. The natural order of the universe is peace, unity, and love—and every act of forgiveness helps realign you with that divine current. Your efforts to restore harmony ripple outward far more powerfully than you realize, returning you to balance with the greater universe and the divine source from which we all come.
  • Make it a conscious habit not to judge others—not just in theory, but in the real, everyday moments where this teaching is most needed. When you pass a homeless person, see someone struggling with obesity or addiction, encounter someone whose appearance or choices don’t align with your values or preferences—pause. Resist the reflex to judge. Whether it’s a person dressed provocatively, a group of smokers, or someone whose life appears to have veered off course due to painful decisions, recognize that these reactions are not reflections of truth, but of ego. Instead, in that very moment, affirm within yourself: This person is my brother. This person is my sister. We are not separate—we are one. All of us are children and expressions of the greater universe, born of the same divine source. Judgment, even when subtle or fleeting, is the ego’s way of trying to elevate itself by diminishing others. But every time we give in to that impulse, we fracture the unity that is essential to spiritual awakening. To walk the path Jesus taught is to remember that we are bound together—not by appearances or behavior, but by spirit. When you meet others with compassion instead of criticism, you not only honor them—you return yourself to the truth of who you are.
  • Helping those in need—whether beggars, panhandlers, or the homeless suffering on the street—is one of the most powerful ways to realign yourself with the divine order of the universe. Every act of compassion toward the least among us is not just an expression of kindness; it is a spiritual declaration that you are releasing your attachment to money and material possessions in favor of something far greater: love, unity, and the well-being of your fellow human beings. This is a core teaching of Jesus—one that is too often overlooked. He taught us not merely to acknowledge the suffering around us, but to respond to it. Even something as simple as buying a sandwich for someone starving on the street can restore a moment of peace in their life and ripple outward in ways we may never see. The act itself demonstrates not only that you care for your neighbor, but that you prioritize human dignity over personal wealth. When you give freely, you send a clear message into the universe: The welfare of my brothers and sisters matters more than the money in my pocket. In doing so, you step back into alignment with the natural order—one rooted in compassion, generosity, and shared humanity. Every small act of kindness nudges the world closer to collective peace and joy.
  • Declare in your mind that the money and things you own do not belong to you but it belongs to the greater universe and ask for guidance on how to use it.
  • Declare: “In peace, I release all attachments to money and all material things I own. Use it as you will father. The most important priority for me is unlocking and activating the spiritual bliss present within me Jesus referred to as heaven. Guide my words, steps, actions towards this end during my life. I also release all attachments to this body, this identity and this life. This body is not who I am, I am a reflection of you, and I ask to be guided by your spirit on the path you have determined for me. I surrender completely to your will and your plan for me. I recognize that there is no death, we are eternal beings, so I release all fear of death, as death is not real. I release all fear during my life as I know the Holy Spirit is guiding me on the best possible path while also keeping us out of the way of any potential harm.”

In summary

The truth is, many Christians today are not experiencing spiritual awakening or enlightenment because they’ve strayed from the core of Jesus’ message. Rather than directing their praise and devotion to our greater Source, the divine intelligence Jesus referred to as our Father, they have redirected that worship onto Jesus himself. In doing so, they are inadvertently doing the very opposite of what he taught.

This misalignment is further compounded by the widespread neglect of his actual instructions. Few churches emphasize the daily practices Jesus called for, such as radical forgiveness, surrender to the Holy Spirit, or love for all without judgment. Instead, many have adopted the belief that simply declaring faith in Jesus is enough, without embodying the path he laid out.

While some of his teachings have been referenced earlier in this article, many more are explored throughout the other writings on this blog for those who wish to deepen their understanding.

A true understanding of his teachings not only triggers a spiritual awakening and enlightenment, it helps us recognize that we too, not just Jesus, are one with what he called our father, the greater universe above us which we are all a part of and products of.
