It should also be noted that in his teachings, Jesus never demanded or instructed for anyone to worship Him or accept Him as their lord and savior as a prerequisite to achieve truth/salvation. This emphasis, often taught by your favorite local pastors, inaccurately teaches these requirements, despite Jesus never teaching this. I think it’s understandable for people to accept that Jesus accomplished what our greater father selected him to do. However, it’s critical to follow the life guidelines he actually taught everyone to follow, because those are the steps needed for salvation and accessing heaven he said was within all of us. It’s been a large misunderstanding that because he had attained oneness with God, that does not imply worship. He was teaching all his followers to experience that same oneness with God by utilizing his very instructions he taught everyone. Teaching everyone how to accomplish this, is how he so quickly attained a following, as he was blowing everyone’s minds by demonstrating a path to a spiritual awakening and heaven within. Something that is demonstrably true despite the claims of your favorite next-door skeptic.
There are many instances when speaking to people, I’ve asked what they did to achieve a spiritual awakening/truth on their spiritual journey and many just say they did it by proclaiming “Jesus is lord”.
Statements like this has been taught far too often as the only step necessary. Objectively speaking, they would not even be doing the bare minimum of what Jesus asked since that doesn’t check off any of the boxes on the list of things he taught his followers to do.
Jesus gave very clear instructions on how to access heaven that’s within all of us, and remember Heaven is not something to be enjoyed later, but now in your current lifetime, so tap into it asap.
This is also demonstrably true when self proclaimed Christians are espousing and advocating for views, positions, policies, laws that completely violate Jesus teachings. I can’t help but wonder how seriously they took Jesus’ instructions. This is not a judgement on them, but it’s observable and verifiably true if a Christian is in fact completely violating the tenets of their faith.
Unfortunately, many preachers do not spend enough time focusing on the guidelines that calls us to embrace our oneness with all humanity and the greater universe via teachings of:
- Make a genuine effort to seek the kingdom of god, heaven, which is within all of us.
- being virtuous, altruistic, etc
- selflessness, putting others before yourself constantly whenever possible.
- forgiveness and mercy
- loving others and our greater father
- Benevolence
- always selecting the path of peace, being a peacemaker whenever possible. avoiding all conflicts
- avoiding judgements towards others, reflect on yourself when you feel tempted to judge others
- taking care of the poor and sick, demonstrating compassion and empathy/sympathy often.
- be generous and giving towards others, another display of compassion and sympathy.
- trusting tomorrow and the future to our father, using the holy spirit to be that guide for us.
- tapping into the holy spirit that binds all of us together and is available to all of us above our egos consciousness.
Believing
As you can see, these instructions are far more nuanced and detailed than simply declaring you accept him as lord or that he died for you, and promptly ending your spiritual journey there. Believing implies not just trusting him and his message but also practicing his teachings as a result. It’s imperative to actually follow his instructions and guidelines in life that will restore your unity/oneness with humanity and all things.
His teachings of forgiveness allow us to also be introspective, as we reflect on whether we’ve been just as guilty of the things we judge or get mad at others for and whatever they did to trigger and anger/upset us. This self reflection and honest introspection is vital. You see yourself in others more often than you think. When forgiving others, find it in your heart to demonstrate mercy.
So it’s important that for anyone to “believe in him”, they never forget this suggests actually practicing his message to the tee. In mainstream culture, the meaning of the word ‘believe’ has been dumbed down so much. If I had to guess, this thanks in part to ‘do you believe in Santa Clause” being so pervasive in society, to the point that it simply means acknowledging they exist in common vernacular/English. A passive statement without any change in lifestyle.
In traditional older English, saying you believe is more than a bare bones belief that they exist or worship them, it’s an acknowledgment that you trust that what he said was true and an intention to emulate him. Telling people you think Jesus was a real person and told the truth does nothing unless actually follow his instructions.
