Using a fabricated person as an example and template, replace these variables with whatever your comparable versions for these would be. Feel free to add whatever other personal qualities you feel make up the identity you’ve built up and curated your entire life!

  • I am not my alcoholism. This is a temporary problem that will pass, I trust our father and the holy spirit for guidance in overcoming it.
  • I am not my diabetes. It does not define me or who I am. I release all identification with it.
  • I am not a Californian. It is just my home, but not my identity. I release and let go all identification with it.
  • I am not Star Wars or Tarantino films, they are only my interests but are not my identity.
  • I am not American, Italian or Irish, they are my family’s background but not my identity.
  • I am not this website I developed, it is not my identity
  • I am not my instagram, facebook or any other social media profiles, and all the content I posted on it. They do not comprise my identity or who I am in truth. I am more than willing to delete my social media profiles which are purely designed to reinforce attachments to identity & ego.
  • I am not my marriage dissolution. It does not define me.
  • I am not Led Zeppelin, they are not part of my identity, they’re just a band I enjoy
  • I am not a Christian (this will not send you to the pits of hell, you are relieving yourself from all identity, and shedding your ego. Organized religions and their labels play a huge role in the identities people construct and why many become incredibly defensive. Awakening to the universe within us does not require a check to see if you have a cross around your neck. In fact, it helps to take any identity/ego markers off)

A good way to know you’ve truly released any identification with these things is if someone insults or criticizes any of the items on your list, and it triggers no reaction. Anything that sets you off or boils your blood when it gets mocked/ridiculed belongs on your list.

Anything that increases your blood rate when criticized, attacked, mocked is your prompt to tell yourself:
“I am not this thing and I do not take this personally. They are attacking nothing real

It is especially important to watch and catch yourself when you refrain from saying things that may upset someone else, because this also counts as identity editing/curation, a hallmark sign of attachment/identification with your ego. This works the other way too, perhaps you are posting a lot of content to project a certain image to the world. Be honest and be yourself.

Announce within your consciousness into the universe, to our father/source and the quantum field of the universe (the holy spirit) the below:

“In peace, I release all identification with these items above that do not reflect who I truly am. Holy Spirit, please reveal any that remain hidden from me. I recognize that in truth, I am only an eternal child and reflection of our Father and Source. Father, dissolve any illusion of separation between myself and all my fellow humans, for I recognize we are one in truth. I release attachment to my body, my ego, and the identity I have built. I surrender all control to our father and open myself fully to the universal vastness and the holy spirit within. I accept your will, your guidance through the Holy Spirit that I welcome within me. May God guide my life so my words, actions, and choices align with His plan. As I let go of what is false, I welcome truth and open myself to the infinite bliss of the universe that is already within me

For Christians that believe that the human ego was not a concern for Jesus or relevant to his teachings. He did not have the psychological vocabulary to describe dimension of human identity/consciousness but it’s described in less direct language in these ancient texts unfortunately. He explicitly taught his followers to deny “the self”

Luke 9:23

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Here “deny himself” is about letting go of the self-centered identity — what psychology today calls the ego — to embrace humility, service, and alignment with God. Christians should not dismiss ideas or terminology simply because they are not explicitly named in Scripture. Buddhists, for example, have achieved profound spiritual awakening without professing Jesus as their Savior. This is possible because there is significant overlap between the spiritual principles of both paths. In truth, Christians and Buddhists should be standing together, united in pursuit of the same ultimate spiritual goals. The moment a Christian draws a dividing line and refuses to embrace others who share the same values, simply because they have not formally accepted Jesus, is the moment they step away from Jesus’ most essential teachings: to love your neighbor and to refrain from judging others.
