God does not remain indifferent to inhumanity. The universal principle of “you reap what you sow’ is a natural law of the universe and represents a form of natural justice that applies to every single one of us, regardless of one’s acknowledgement or belief in it. Evidence of its authenticity is evident and visible in everyone’s life and is often passively acknowledged as Karma and then quickly discarded. However, all good and bad moments in one’s life is a reaction to a former action or decision one has made.

The prevalence of homelessness and poverty does not reflect a neglectful deity, but rather highlights the extent of our species’ lack of humanity towards its own. It serves as a litmus test for our adherence to Jesus’ teachings. Jesus himself emphasized the importance of caring for strangers, regardless of their origins or circumstances. Demonstrating empathy and humanity towards those in need brings manifold rewards, as the natural karmic law of the universe acknowledges and rewards such actions through the same law and principle that would punish negative and indifferent actions

Instead of questioning how a “supposedly benevolent” God allows such suffering, we should introspectively examine our own actions. Each day presents opportunities to assist the desperate—whether they are poor, homeless, or starving. Having worked in a major city for years, I regrettably grew desensitized to the sight of those living on the streets. This is a manner of thinking I had to consciously revert upon realization of how it impacted my empathy. It is crucial for everyone to pause and reflect on our collective inaction towards alleviating the plight of others. These situations serve as reminders from God urging us to embody compassion and extend aid to others.

Jesus’ teachings underscore that showing kindness to strangers and even adversaries yield greater spiritual rewards than assisting close friends and family. Therefore, embracing such generosity promises substantial returns and helps achieve the universal peace and harmony that Jesus advocated.

It is essential to bear in mind that as human beings, we possess free will. The imposition of certain actions by a divine entity, treating us akin to pawns on a chessboard, would entirely negate any autonomy we have. Therefore, we must accept accountability for our actions and shortcomings, rather than attributing blame to a higher power. We retain our agency while also seeking assistance from the Holy Spirit when needed, presenting a balanced approach that aligns with divine will while maximizing our free will.

Every day, our own nation forfeits significant opportunities for substantial karmic returns by turning away foreign individuals who are making desperate attempts to seek refuge within our borders. This contradiction is particularly ironic in light of frequent assertions by conservative Christians that ours is a Christian nation and that their own spiritual faith admonishes them to extend aid and hospitality to strangers who step foot in their land in addition to the impoverished. At present, we undeniably portray ourselves as a Christian nation despite closing our doors to people in desperate need of assistance.
