I consider myself a spiritual person but still very much against organized religion which inherently divides and separates people into different tribes and sects. True spirituality when properly leveraged helps people recognize our unity as humanity. Last I checked there was over 10,000 denominations of Christianity which is ridiculous and spits on the face of everything Jesus taught. Organized religion is antithetical to spirituality.

For all the obstructions to growth and development that have been pointed out about organized religions

In terms of approaching and examining life as an ex-atheist, what’s undoubtedly annoying and negative about that perspective overall is an insistence that we already know everything that we need to know and that the only things that exist are things that are perceivable with our normal senses which is fundamentally impossible.

Anyone who has dabbled or touched on fields like quantum mechanics and metaphysics knows that there is more beyond what is visible or sensible with our standard bodily senses. The entire goal of successfully executed spirituality is to upgrade your consciousness and perceptions to observe more than what is typically observable by your body.

The downside is that most religious folks are not achieving this successfully, so they end up being poor ambassadors for spirituality overall.
