The pathway to spiritual awakening, as Jesus taught, was not centered around merely “believing” in him, but rather on the practice of his teachings. For his followers, achieving the elevated state of consciousness he described as “heaven” required their active engagement with the Holy Spirit and following its guidance on how to awaken it within themselves.
Just as a valedictorian honors their professors for imparting essential knowledge, much of the credit for their achievements lies in their own dedication and effort. It would be misleading to give 100% of the credit to the professors, though they deserve credit of course. Our father, the universe and Holy Spirit help facilitate your spiritual awakening as long as you continue making the effort.
In this light, mainstream Christianity’s emphasis on solely “believing in Jesus” may inadvertently shift focus away from the deeper work of embodying his teachings to achieve a spiritual awakening. Jesus’ mission was not to receive worship but to guide others toward spiritual awakening by fully surrendering to their designated purpose in the universe, just as it had bestowed upon him.
The modern call to just “believe in Jesus” has led to teachings to worship him, however “believe in him” is a term that, when written, only meant to emulate and follow their lifestyle/teachings. In modern society, “believe in him” was transformed into “believe in him” leading to instructions and implications that he should be idolized and worshiped. While it’s important to accept that Jesus was absolutely fulfilling a purpose set out by the universe to him (as we all should) believing in him only means to follow his instructions and emulate him. At its core, “believe him” also implied trust in the truth of his instructions and the commitment to act upon them, thus allowing the results to speak for themselves. Emulating someone is a stark contrast from a commandment to worship him. A demand to worship him would be more of a claim of someone consumed with narcissism and ego, and that is not something that Jesus ever had to worry about. So this is yet another way we know his intent and teachings did not invite or request worship.
Thus, those who follow this path can certainly pay respects to Jesus and other spiritual icons for showing them how to tap into the spirit of the universe, but it is essential to recognize that their own desire, commitment, and action set the process in motion. Once an individual takes those initial steps, the universe responds, carrying them forward toward spiritual awakening. Ultimate credit rests with the greater universe and the Holy Spirit, but none of it unfolds without the individual’s openness to explore the metaphysical and transcendent planes.
So it is critical for persons when in worship to direct it to our collective father and invite the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Christian tradition of worshiping Jesus himself is a misdirection and misunderstanding of his teachings, as important of a teacher he was, he was not someone who ever asked or needed to be worshiped to experience a profound spiritual awakening. The fear of modern Christians to not declare him as their God out of a fear of the afterlife is also discarding his other teachings to let go of all fear, including fear of death. Rest assured, as we are all reflections of the greater universe and the only thing that happens after death is just another ride on the carousel. The universe is love and the only “hell” is a life where you haven’t experienced enlightenment. This enlightenment is your birthright and the misconception that it can only be experienced after you die should be discarded right away.
