One of the greatest ironies of the human species. Atheists were polled and were found to be more likely to believe in simulation theory (the theory that this is all a computer simulation or dream). This is despite voluntarily ignoring instructions to awaken from the simulation demonstrably proven by anyone who genuinely pursued these established practices. In short, these are instructions to have our illusionary life we are living and fabricated concepts of “you” and “I” melt away as we experience infinity and unity with humanity and the universe.
Perhaps most spiritual teachings would be more appealing to atheists if it was more accurately advertised that our collection illusions and egos would dissolve.
In a similar state of irony, many hardcore organized religious people have not experienced the spiritual awakening from the simulation due to not following the clearly posted instructions from their own faiths. So unfortunately not all of them are the best ambassadors for the metaphysical and practical purposes of spirituality. This would change if the instructions to achieve this were correctly followed on a wider level. As an American, this is most evident in my culture, where many self described Christians, who objectively speaking, are spewing divisive, hateful, discriminatory, judgmental, selfish attitudes towards others. Not to mention, a total callousness towards desperate/needy people that are antithetical to what their own faith teaches. A united and transcended universal consciousness is not possible while also dividing yourself from others or hating others. These are mutually exclusive positions in life.
Unfortunately, not all advocates of spirituality have achieved this desirable goal.
The reasons Christians and Buddhists are both able to achieve a transcendental spiritual awakening is due to overlaps in their teachings, and they both ultimately merge into the same universal teachings. Effectively causing one to realign oneself with the universe and the nature of all things which is peace, love and unity. Effectively restoring our singular monolithic consciousness as opposed to segregated consciousness due to our egos and our obsession with individualism, desire for distinction from others and being seen as special/better rather than one.
In short, Siddhartha (Buddha), Jesus, and other spiritual icons were essentially our real life “Neo” of the matrix films, except they spent most of their lives teaching people how to awaken from our collective dream. While some may argue some were killed for being a threat and critic to the religious establishment at the time. I have no doubt of much of the resistance was due to retaliation from people who were not happy or interested in relinquishing any egoic control/free will and any attachment to their lower egoic consciousness.
In archaic spiritual teachings, terms like ‘Holy Spirit‘ are used, however, as we humans begin to further investigate and understand the nature of the universe, the term Jesus coined will be seen as outdated as it will undoubtedly be replaced with terms like ‘Quantum Field’ or something else more in line with our understanding of the infinite quantum realm/universe.
Humanity’s egos are in a state of constant division and warfare against each other, sometimes literal warfare, and sometimes purely cultural warfare where people are pitted against each other over differing opinions and views. The ultimate effect of this is perpetuating an illusion of separation from others, when we are in fact one. In American society, it always seems like we are split down the middle, two completely different tribes. Typically motivated by political ideology and religious beliefs. Abortion alone seems like an endless debate that keeps people divided instead of united. I eagerly await for cultural reconciliation on this issue so we can take a giant step towards unity in this nation.
The division triggered by highly contentious issues like abortion are all ultimately examples of divide and conquer tactics. The time-honored tradition of people in power easily controlling the population by keeping them divided. This is to prevent revolt by keeping people fighting instead of uniting against the people in power. This isn’t really a conspiracy theory and there are plenty of historical examples of this strategy being explicitly and clearly used by the governing powers in different cultures throughout history.
If your knee jerk reaction to the idea of Jesus teachings being also being taught by other spiritual leaders and faiths in the world is hostility and opposition, then you’ve lost the thread completely of what he taught. Other people are not enemies or opposition. We are all one. “Others” people being referred to as brothers/sisters/neighbors was merely symbolic of our true unified nature. As he taught metaphorically, we are all our “father’s children” which was his way of teaching us that we are all ultimately one and one with the universe as a whole which proves that nondualism was the true nature of his teachings. This is not much different at all than what other influential faiths teach such as Buddhism. The ultimate goal of any successful spiritual path is the realization that we are all one, and not separate from either each other or the ultimate universe.
Multiple spiritual practices are able to help people awaken from this dream/illusionary state, despite the nuances and differences between them, they all ultimately need to converge on the same universal instructions for awakening if you want to achieve this. So no faith/religion has any exclusive ownership of these teachings/ideas. They are different roads that all ultimately merge onto the same freeway to the enlightened destination. Those universal steps must be taken irrespective of any religion or label you’ve associated yourself with. In truth, applying any religious label to yourself just works to prolong your ego’s desire to see yourself as separate from others instead of one with others. This is a habit that must be broken as well.
